Orlando City announced on Tuesday it has signed former U.S. men’s national team defender Jonathan Spector via a discovery signing.
“It’s no secret we have been looking for another defender,” Orlando City general manager Niki Budalic said in a statement. “Jonathan brings the leadership and character we’ve been looking for. His experience will be a valuable asset to build a competitive squad.”
The 30-year-old defender was the awaited center back piece to complete Jason Kreis’ back line for the upcoming 2017 season.
Spector spent time at Manchester United, making seven appearance during the 2004-05 season. The United States international joined Birmingham City in 2011 where he tallied 153 appearances in the English Football League Championship.
Spector’s last appearance with the USMNT was on October 2015 and has 35 caps with Stars and Stripes.
